Insulation Removal Edmonton

Some attics need emptying before they need insulating. New material laid over damp or contaminated insulation seals the problem in rather than fixing it.

When Material Has to Come Out

Four situations account for nearly all of it: water damage from a roof or plumbing leak, rodent contamination, smoke and soot after a fire, and material so settled or degraded it no longer performs. In each case the existing insulation is holding moisture, odour or contaminant, and anything laid on top inherits the problem. In this climate there is a fifth: attics where years of frost accumulation and thaw have left the material repeatedly wetted.

How the Work Is Done

Material is vacuumed out through a hose into sealed bags rather than carried through the house, which keeps dust and contaminant out of the living space. The attic deck is left clean so whatever goes in next sits on a sound surface. Access, containment at the hatch and where the bags leave the property are all part of the job and worth agreeing before the crew arrives.

We Quote It as Its Own Line

Removal is slow, dirty work and it is the easiest item to bury inside a larger number. Pricing it separately lets you see what the clean-out costs against what the new insulation costs. It also means that when the existing material is sound, we can say so and leave it, rather than having an incentive to pull out insulation that was still doing its job.

Deal With the Cause First

An attic that needed emptying usually needed it for a reason. A roof leak gets fixed before anything goes in beneath it. Rodent entry points get identified, or the new material is contaminated in time too. Where frost has been the cause, the air leaks that carried the moisture up there have to be sealed or the cycle simply repeats.

Questions

Common questions

Do I always need the old insulation removed?

No, and we will say so when it can stay. Removal is for material that is damp, contaminated, damaged or fully settled.

How do you remove attic insulation?

It is vacuumed out through a hose into sealed bags, which keeps dust and contaminant out of the living space.

Can new insulation go in the same day?

Often yes on a residential attic, once the space is clean, dry and the underlying cause has been addressed.
